Encyclopedia
Ezra Kire is an American singer/songwriter. He resides New York City where he sings and plays guitar and piano in the punk band Morning Glory
, and punk/ska band Leftover Crack
. In the late 90s/early 2000's he was lead guitarist in now defunct political punk/ska band Choking Victim
. After Choking Victim released just one record No Gods, No Managers
, the band broke up and Kire briefly started a street/skate punk band called InDK. After the demise of InDK he re-united with former band mate Stza to form the band Leftöver Crack, and toured extensively in Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
After a dispute with their record label, Hellcat Records (a subsidiary of Epitaph Records) over censorship, Leftöver Crack released a full length record titled Mediocre Generica
on that label in 2001 before moving to Alternative Tentacles Records for their second album Fuck World Trade
(2004), which was recorded in Chicago with engineer/producer Steve Albini. In addition to this publicized dispute with their label, LOC attracted considerable attention from the NYPD.
In the meantime Kire started another band: Morning Glory. M-Glory is a more anthemic, polished version of Kire's melodic song writing, with lyrical content which champions the little guy and is at once more personal and optimistic than his Leftover Crack material. In 2001 they released the full length record "This Is No Time To Sleep" on CD. Only 1000 copies were printed, and to date (Nov. 2011) it has not been re-pressed, making it a hard-to-find LP.
Morning Glory was formed into a full band in 2001 with JP Otto (Stockyard Stoics) on drums, Lucky Strano (World Inferno Friendship Society) on lead guitar, Mike Hause (Tulsa Doom), and artist and founding member of the iconic crust band Nausea
's John John Jesse
. In 2003 they released their first studio recording, an EP titled "The Whole World Is Watching" with recording engineer Jesse Cannon
at Musformation Studios in Union City, New Jersey. In 2008 they did a brief tour of the West Coast in the United States.
While Kire plays almost all the instruments on their records, the live band regrouped in 2011 with a new line up including Earl Harington on drums, "Metal" Chris Theorough on bass, and Adam Schrager (Sixgun Radio) on guitar. They recorded a full-length studio record, again with Jesse Cannon in New Jersey, spread out over the course of 10 months, which has a planned release date for the spring of 2012.
Ezra's latest musical project is a children's record - just acoustic guitar and piano songs for children ages 3-12 years old.
