The team spent a short stint in the Ukrainian Second Division. After several successful seasons the team's administration decided to withdraw out of the professional league back to the amateur competitions. Fakel is also well known as a good amateur club. The club has won the Amateur Cup and the Championship the next season. After 2000 the club's results were more modest, but it is still considered to be as one of the conteders.
