FC Spartak Yerevan was an Armenia
football
club based in the city of Yerevan
. The club played in the Armenian Premier League
and was previously known as FC Tsement Ararat and FC Araks Ararat. It has won two titles, one with Tsement and the other with Araks.
(Not to be confused with FC Ararat Yerevan
). In the beginning of the first Armenian Championship
in 1992, the club was renamed to FC Tsement Ararat. In year 1998, Tsement won both the Championship
and the Cup
. The following year, Tsement yielded the championship to Shirak
by 2 points and actually ended up on the third spot behind Ararat. However, the club managed to retain the Cup
.
In the following year, Tsement was renamed again, and this time was given a more native name. The new name of the club would be FC Araks Ararat. Araks did very well that season and won the Championship
Title. After this success, the owners of the club decided to move it to Yerevan
under a new name; FC Spartak Yerevan, however, the team's name, logo, history and statistics were transferred to Yerevan
.
In 2003, the club was merged with FC Banants
.
