Encyclopedia
The FIA WTCC Race of the United States is a planned round of the World Touring Car Championship
, to be held at the Infineon Raceway
near Sonoma, California
. It is planned to be held in the 2012 World Touring Car Championship season
.
It is unknown if the race will use the full (4,060m) or motorcycle (3,570m) configuration. The motorcycle layout is also used by the IZOD IndyCar Series, and features a chicane in Turn 9, and a shorter Turn 11 hairpin to emphasise additional runoff because the traditional Turn 11 is guarded by a concrete wall, as the pit lane entrance is just before Turn 11, and wraps around the turn, necessitating a concrete wall around the outside of the Turn 11 hairpin.
