FanShake
Encyclopedia
FanShake is a music fan engagement platform which rewards participants for the amount of support and involvement they have with an artist. Based in London, United Kingdom, with an office in Paris, France, FanShake was founded by Dana al-Salem in March 2009. FanShake's features include requesting concerts, discovering artists, playing games, singing karaoke, creating and managing fan clubs, and receiving exclusive offers on live events. The site offers services for enthusiasts of musical groups, promoters and artists.

Contests

The main feature on FanShake is the ability for members to enter artist-specific contests to win exclusive prizes. In the past, prizes have included tickets to shows, backstage passes, meet-and-greet opportunities and artist merchandise. Contests involve a member submitting either a photo or a video to the site (according to the contest rules), and other members are able to vote for their favorite. Current contests include singing a karaoke version of Christophe Willem's "Lost in Berlin", listing who would be in your "fantasy band" for JLS tickets, and sharing your own personal version of hell for an AC/DC contest. New contests are constantly being added to the site. Artists are able to grow their fanbase by engaging fans with these contests.

Features

There are many features of the current site which includes the ability to create blind tests, in which one or more songs is played and questions asked about them, and send them to friends on the site. Users can also create a blog page where they can present themselves, copy or share playlists with other members or add other members to their friend list. Also, a mail feature is available to members, allowing them to talk with other members and a music news feature, also available to non-members, which displays recent music news.

Concert Demands

Another popular feature on FanShake is the "Demand a Concert" option, where members are able to request their favorite artists to perform in their city and share there demand with their friends. These demands demonstrate to the artist the potential success that he/she would have when determining tour venues. The more demands one artist gets in a particular location, the more likely that the artist will perform there. Labels are able to understand exactly who their fans are, build targeted marketing campaigns, enhance their content and give visibility to top fans. Concert promoters, ticketing services, and producers better understand their public, increase direct sales and effectively reduce marketing costs. Popular Concert Demand: Rage Against the Machine.

Blog

FanShake is also equipped with a blog that is updated daily. These blogs contain information and the latest updates from all over the music world.

Dana al-Salem

Dana has been at the forefront of digital media and music since 1994 when she co-founded Clockwork, a Stockholm based multimedia agency which built the first music websites for artists (Sony, RCA).
In May 1996 Dana co-founded Yahoo! Europe, built the Yahoo! Europe production team and managed the European local territories.
In 2002 as Biz Dev Director at Bruce Dunlop & Associates, Dana managed the launch, programming, rebranding, and scheduling alignment of Sky Italia, MBC, ITV, and in 2006 she was awarded the World Gold Promax award.
In 2005, Dana founded the label LostRecords, managed, produced artists and worldwide tours for artists such as Chris Stills, Paul Personne, Louis Bertignac and Youssou NDour, Mark Ford. Marketing was 100% digital, LostRecords was selling 200 CDs per concert. She founded FanShake in 2009.

Jamie Turner

Jamie became vice-chairman of Europe's largest free festival, Strawberry Fair. Booking local heroes Hamfatter onto the prestige's main stage, Jamie then began his managerial role with Hamfatter.
An arts council grant of £5000 gave the band funds to record their debut album, hire a radio and press agent for 7 days and chart a single Sziget at number 54!  An inspired moment led to Jamie seeking further investment through non-industry avenues.
Notoriety followed after an appearance on the BBC's Dragons Den in July 2008. Convincing no less than four of the five Dragons to invest, Jamie opted to partner with Dragon Peter Jones to promote a new approach to funding and developing music, causing widespread media coverage The Times stated "The deal could mark a turning point in how new music is made" The Independent "An entirely new business model for the music industry". Jamie is currently the numéro deux at FanShake.

Matt Jenner

Matt moved to France from Maryland, USA in 2006 to attend the American University of Paris. Now graduated, he is currently the company's Community Administrator and FanShake Guru.
