The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) is the primary law enforcement agency servicing 68,010 people within 651 square miles (1,686.1 km²) of jurisdiction within Fauquier County, VA.
Patrol operations The FCSO Patrol Division is Fauquier County’s “First Line of Defense” providing a wide range of law enforcement services. The Patrol Division is responsible for the uniformed patrol functions of the department including 24-hour response to the initial incidents and investigation of crimes, traffic control and enforcement, accident investigation, community policing programs, crime prevention functions and specialized operations
Police canine Canine units routinely respond to alarms and to all buildings that are found to be unsecured.
School Resource Officer Program The School Resource Officer program is a community policing based approach practiced in the school environment.
Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team SERT is a very highly trained and specialized unit. Their purpose is to provide the type of tactical response necessary to safely defuse or bring to a closure certain types of high risk or threat situations.

Community services
- Bicycle Safety Bicycle Safety educates youth on the importance of bicycle safety, rules of the road, and wearing bicycle helmets.
- Child Identification Program The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office Child Identification Program is intended to give parents and guardians a tool for use in the identification of their child.
- Child Safety Seat Program The Child Safety Seat Program inspects and installs child safety seats at the request of parents or guardians.
- Neighborhood Watch Neighborhood Watch enlists the active participation of residents, in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in communities throughout the County.
- Special Olympics Special Olympics is an international program of year round sports training and athletic competition for more than one million children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
- Triad Triad is a partnership between the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office, Warrenton Town Police, AARP, and the retired leadership in the community. The primary goals are to reduce the criminal victimization of older citizens of the community and to enhance the delivery of law enforcement services to them.
