Encyclopedia
Fay Jackson is an inspirational, multi-award winning motivational speaker, educator and advocate for mental health in Australia and on the international stage.

One of the first corporate consumer speakers in the world, Fay designs and implements workplace training programs to build bridges and promote relationships between the psychologically diverse range of people who can be found in any workplace.

Probably most well known for her motivational speaking, Fay can make you laugh and cry in one breath.

The first consumer speaker for Beyond Blue, the Australian Rotary Health Foundation and the founding director of Vision In Mind, Fay trains consumer speakers for the Black Dog Institute Bipolar Education Program

Fay is proud to be a person with mental illness. She has bipolar disorder and refers to herself, with tongue in cheek, as a Psychologically Diverse Citizen or PDC. She also refers to people without mental illness as Psychologically Ordinary Citizens or POCs and laughs at the number of people who come out of the wood work and declare themselves as PDCs if the alternative is to be called a POC. Her aim is to destigmatise Mental Health and Mental Illness in all sectors of the community, services, workplace, educational institutions at all levels.

Fay was one of the first people in Australia to stand up and say;
"I live with Mental Illness and it's ok."

•She empowers people.

•She motivates people.

•She gives people back their self-respect.

Fay educates the community that people who live with mental illness can contribute to the community as much, if not more than their counterparts without mental illness. Without mental illness, the world would have no colour, she would say.

Think Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mel Gibson, Michael Phelps Princess Diana, and the beautiful Marilyn Munroe.

And who could ever forget John Nash, the Nobel Prize winner and mathematician whose story is featured in Syvia Nassar's book:

Fay advises the NSW Centre for Mental Health and sits on the NSW Peak Consumer and Carer Sub-Committee.

She has also had the honour of being asked to represent Consumers on the NSW Consumer and Carer Taskforce Group for the formulation of the NSW Mental Health Commission.

Fay's commitment is making a difference. She is being heard at levels that people with mental illness could only dream of 10 years ago. And, she provides a voice of reason for the media.

The former art and drama teacher, is regularly engaged to present at workplace conferences, advise the NSW and Federal governments, and Non Government Organisations (NGOs), on the state and conditions of mental illness and mental health in the community, services and the workplace.

She is the Master Trainer in Mental Health First Aid Australia-wide, having presented at a number of Universities, including the University of Melbourne and the Australian National University and the consumer reprsentative for a number of Australia-wide mental health campaigns.

Previous to starting Vision In Mind, Fay was the Director of Consumer, Carer and Community Affairs, Mental Health, for a large Area Health Service in NSW, Australia. In that time, Fay was the face of the unique strategies engaged by the Illawarra Area Health Service used to empower consumers, carers and the community resulting in her winning many awards at a State level.

Fay tours Australia as a motivational speaker and educator and while her aim is to impart knowledge, her addresses are emotional and humorous. Her audiences laugh and cry as she breaks down myths and empowers them. She believes that professionalism should not be void of emotions and laughter.

Fay believes that keeping people in education and employment is vital to people having good mental health. Mental health is an integral part of Occupational Health and Safety
