for the next seven years (known then as Фере Fere). Many of the villages received their current names since the 1950s after many of them were changed from the Turkish origin. The municipality was created in 1986 and included the communities of Ardanio, Doriskos, Feres and Itea. Under the Capodistrian Plan (2539/1997) in 1997, the old communities of Peplos and Tryfilli joined the municipality.
