Fillan is a village and former municipality in Sør-Trøndelag
county, Norway
. The village is also the municipal center of the present-day municipality of Hitra
. It is located on the northeastern shore of Hitra island, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) south of Ansnes
. The 0.88 square kilometres (217.5 acre) village has a population (2009) of 522.
The former municipality included the northeastern part of the island of Hitra surrounding the Fillfjorden, plus about 100 island
