The Israeli Ministry of Finance is a part of the Israeli political system

Politics of Israel

The Israeli system of government is based on parliamentary democracy. The Prime Minister of Israel is the head of government and leader of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in the Knesset. The Judiciary is independent of the executive...

. It is responsible for planning and implementing the Government of Israel’s overall economic policy.

The ministry has many functions, including; overseeing the draft State Budget and monitoring the implementation of the approved budget, managing state revenues, the collection of direct and indirect taxes, managing the deficit, regulating the capital market, savings and insurance, and conducting the Government’s economic relations with foreign governments. The Ministry also maintains auxiliary units for government ministries in motor vehicles, computer services, printing and government procurement.

Main functions

The Ministry provides three types of services:

• Government staff services, consisting of departments acting on behalf of the government. These include the Budget Department, the Accountant General, the Internal Audit Unit and more.
• General economic staff services, consisting of departments related to running the general economy. This includes the State Revenue Administration, in charge of the management of state revenues, the Capital Market, Insurance and Savings Department, in charge of regulation of these markets, and the Tax Authority, which implements the income tax and property tax ordinances, customs, and VAT.
• Auxiliary services, consisting of services for government agencies, and including the Government Vehicle Administration, computer services, government publication services, etc.
