Finnish parliamentary election, 1995
Encyclopedia
The 32nd elections to the Finnish parliament were held on March 19, 1995. The previous centre-right cabinet fell, as the Social Democrats (SDP) made strong gains and achieved the best result of any party after the Second World War. The main reason for the defeat of the Centre Party-led coalition was its unpopuar austerity program and lingering effects of the early 1990s recession.

After the election, a five party "Rainbow Coalition" was formed, with SDP leader Paavo Lipponen appointed Prime Minister.
