First Day (The Inbetweeners)

"First Day" is the very first episode of The Inbetweeners
which aired on the 1 May 2008 on E4. When originally broadcast it was viewed in 240,000 households
) arrives at his new school as he cannot continue to have private education as his mother has not got enough money. He goes for a meeting with the other new kids otherwise known as 'The Freaks' and Mr Gilbert (Greg Davies
). Will is forced to wear a Big Green Badge. He arrives at his class where he insults Mr Gilbert without realising he is standing behind him. Mr Gilbert tells Simon (Joe Thomas
) to look after Will despite the fact Simon does not want to.
As Will walks around the school people begin to call him names (usually referring to the fact that he carries a briefcase) and Simon tries to avoid spending time with him. He decides to go to the toilet where he listens to Simon and his friends Jay (James Buckley
) and Neil (Blake Harrison
) talk about sex. Mark Donovan (Henry Lloyd Hughes), the school bully, walks in and tells the three boys to go away. Donovan and his friend spot Will's feet in the cubicle and take photos of him on the toilet which they display all around the school.
We then see Will's mother and the boys comment on how attractive she is - a common feature throughout the show. Will invites himself along to the annual first day of term student gathering at a local pub despite Jay and Neil's protesting.
On arrival at the Pub, Will meets up with Jay, Simon and Neil. They try unsuccessfully to get served and later find out that they are in the wrong pub. After reaching the right pub Simon is snubbed by his crush Carly D'Amato (Emily Head
) and a frustrated Will tells the barman that everyone in the pub is under age, leading to them all being kicked out. Outside, Mark threatens to kill Will and Simon seems to be coming round to the idea of being friends with Will.
