on channel Nederland 1. 13 weeks en 13 episodes later, on 26 november, the last episode of the first season was aired. The first season had an average of 1.314.000 viewers per episode and on March 20, 2008 it was released on dvd.
Since September 2, 2008, the series was also aired in Belgium
, on channel één. In average, 737.000 Belgium viewers watched the first season. The second season was also aired in Belgium in the fall of 2010.
In 2009, the third and forth season was taped. The third season started on October 30, 2009 and had 10 episodes. The fourth season was aired directly after the third season. The reason for this unusual event is unknown.
In the beginning of 2010, the TROS
announced that they had ordered to produce the fith season. This season also had 10 episodes. The recordings started in the end of May 2010. The first episode was aired on January 7, 2011. In the fifth season, Will van Kralingen (hoofdinspecteur Ellis Flammand) comes back after she had to leave earlier due to medical reasons.
The popularity of the series was proofed at the 'Flikkendag Maastricht 2010' on September 25, 2010. That day was a day with demos of emergency services in Maastricht with special visits of the four leading actors from the series. Previously there was a Flikkendag in Gent.
In the series, the city Maastricht
and the police HQ in that city is displayed a lot. Many of the stories play on or around the Sint Pieters Mountain. Wat lacks to make the image of Limburg
complete is the use of the Limburgian dialect. One of the main caracter, Eva van Dongen, was born in Maastricht in the series. However she speaks pure dutch.
The TROS has ordered to write 10 new episodes for season 6. The taping was done in 2011. There will also come a TV movie from Flikken Maastricht that will play for 1,5 hours. The movie will be made using items from the actuality.
The series is not only aired on the dutch and belgium TV. In March 2011, the series were aired in Italy using the title Flikken - Coppia in giallo, with italian voice-overs.
