Florence is a ghost town

. The town was originally settled as a mining camp in the winter of 1861, Several hundred miners who had come for the Clearwater Gold Rush of 1861, heard of a huge bonanza there on the Salmon River
. Many of the miners walked from Pierce, Idaho
to Florence in the dead of winter.
It was a placer
gold deposit. many of the workings currently seen in the area are from the Chinese miners that arrived later.
It currently is only a cemetery and the foundations of a few buildings in 1995.
Much of the information is from the road sign on hwy 95 placed by the Idaho Historical Society between White Bird and Riggins.
