Set in London
, it is the story of a wealthy businessman (Michael Jayston
), who suspects that his wife (Farrow) is having an affair. He hires a private detective (Topol) to follow her. She becomes aware that she is being followed, and the detective realises that she has found out. However rather than abandoning the case, the detective begins an elaborate game of cat and mouse
with the complicity of the wife.
The film was released in the United States under its original stage name, The Public Eye.
