Ford F-4EAT transmission
Encyclopedia
The F-4EAT was a 4-speed, electronically controlled automatic transmission developed by Mazda
and JATCO
starting in 1990. It was also later produced by Ford Motor Company
from 1991 to 2003. It is referred to as the F4A-EL by Mazda
and Kia
. It shared the same planetary gear set and drive ratios as the Mazda G4A-EL
and GF4A-EL transmissions, but used a different final drive ratio. This transmission was the replacement for the Ford 3-speed FLC
and was very similar in design and size; the F-4EAT added a fourth gear overdrive and fully electronic operation. There's also a higher output version, used in some Toyota vehicles, from the early 2000's on. It's called the U140E and U241E. Mazda has begun re production of this transmission, for the 2011 Mazda2 subcompact.
