, English, Russian, French, German, Japanese and Korean). Similar to other nation-level magnet high schools, FLSS is recognized for its strong academic programs and for its large percentage of graduates attending prestigious universities in Vietnam and abroad.

Admission to FLSS is by competitive examination only, which consists of four subjects: foreign language, advanced foreign language (for applicants of English and French), mathematics and literature. One of the most selective high schools in Vietnam, FLSS had an acceptance rate of 10.8% for its 2012 freshman class.

A student from FLSS is referred to as a CNNer.

  • In 1994, FLSS was awarded the third degree Labor Medal from Vietnam Central Government.
  • In 1998, College of Foreign Languages designated Nguyen Thi Chi, Ph.D. as the school's first headmistress.
  • The school was continuously awarded Labor Medal's second degree in 1999 and first degree in 2004.
  • In 2007, Le Thi Chinh, Ph.D. was appointed as FLSS's second headmistress.

 were added afterward. Students are arranged into classes specializing in one primary foreign language. From 2008-2009 semester, two foreign language courses (one specialized and one elective) are required for FLSS students. Since the 2009-2010 academic year, Korean has been added as another elective foreign language, along with Chinese, English, French and Japanese.
