Forgandenny was a site of a minor battle during the Wars of Scottish Independence

which historically had a huge soldier to death rate due to a poisoned water supply which affected both sides. Records show that due to a mixture of poisoned water and battle related wounds only 3 of the 142 recorded soldiers for both sides survived the 8 day skirmish. A rumour was started about 50 years after the end of the war that the Scottish warriors were carrying a large case of gold and other valuable supplies to a nearby base which were lost during the battle, and now thought to be hidden somewhere in Forgandenny. This is unconfirmed by any historical records but the rumour still circulates the local area today.
Local author Gregory Ross released a book called "Forgandenny, a Place in History" on the December 1, 2007. The books tells the story of the history of Forgandenny and also includes Aberdalgie, Pathstruie, West Dron and Pitkeathly.
