A time-of-flight camera is a range imaging camera system that resolves distance based on the known speed of light, measuring the time-of-flight of a light signal between the camera and the subject...

s that meet the demands of modern industry in terms of accuracy, reliability and robustness.

Fotonic’s customers develop applications based on the TOF camera for fields ranging from the automotive industry to security, surveillance and medical care.

The core component of all applications is the 3D TOF camera, working at a 60-picture-per-second rate, equivalent of a 3D signal at high-quality video rate. Algorithms has been implemented in the camera to adapt it to several different types of measurements, from high demands on accuracy to objects moving at high speed.

Technology

Fotonic’s applications are based on the use of time-of-flight technology. The 3D cameras calculate the distance independently for each pixel in every picture, forming a complete 3D image in every frame.

The camera is based on a 3D-CMOS image sensor, produced in the same process as the imagesensors commonly used in digital cameras, web cameras and other everyday devices.

Canesta
Canesta
Canesta is a fabless semiconductor company founded in April 1999 by Cyrus Bamji, Abbas Rafii, and Nazim Kareemi. The company manufactures CMOS-based single chip 3D sensors, which can be used as part of input systems for electronic devices. On October 29, 2010, Canesta announced that it would be...

has developed the CMOS image sensors used by Fotonic. The CMOS sensor has enabled cost-effectiveness for 3D imaging, as it makes the end products affordable for a wider range of clients.

Products

Fotonic has launched the Fotonic B70 camera, a state-of-the-art 3D TOF camera that can be used for a wide range of applications. The camera’s robust design makes it suitable for use even in challenging environments, and is calibrated for operating in a temperature range from 0 to 40 degrees Celsius.

The camera housing is made from aluminium and the size of the camera is a 90 mm in diameter and 120 mm in length.

The Fotonic B70 camera uses a standard USB2.0 interface and Windows XP software drivers.

The raw data output resolution is 16 bit in z-range and the signal amplitude is 8 bit.
