Francis McComas was a Tasmanian watercolourist who found success in California.
a small town in a valley of the same name in north east Tasmania. When still a teenager he worked his passage to America where he studied at the Mark Hopkins Institute and later in Paris. On his return he was based in San Francisco.
McComas's watercolours were chosen in 1913 to be in the International Exhibition of Modern Art
in New York after he had moved to Carmel
. McComas's works were exhibited and he had joint shows with Arthur Mathews who was one of his early teachers.
McComas died in Pebble Beach.
