Freddy Buache is a Swiss journalist and cinema critic. He was the director of Cinémathèque Suisse (a foundation for the conservation and study of films and cinematography) from 1951-1996. He is a privatdozent

. In 1948 Buache wrote a theatre play with Charles Apothéloz for the Société de Belles-Lettres, entitled Les Faux Nez (The Straw Men).
As an independent journalist he wrote the "Cinema" column for the Nouvelle Revue de Lausanne, and from 1959 for the Tribune de Lausanne. He developed numerous contacts with the founders of the Cinémathèque Française

In 1950 he founded the Cinémathèque Suisse, of which he was the director from 1951-1996. His successor was Hervé Dumont. From 1967-70 Buache was the co-director with Sandro Bianconi of the Locarno International Film Festival
