in their first year. Freedom played in the Dulles District as a full football member in 2007. On March 14, 2009, Freedom's Girls Varsity Basketball team defeated Robert E. Lee High School of Staunton at VCU in the State Championships, becoming the first school in the county to win a state championship in basketball. On March 13, 2010, Freedom's Girls Varsity Basketball team defeated Spotswood High School at the Richmond Siegel Center in the State Championships. Freedom has also had recent success with their wrestling program, winning back to back AA Dulles District
titles in the 09-10 and 10-11 school year. The school's tennis team won back-to-back district championships in the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons.
The drama department received much praise in 2011 for their outstanding production of "Les Miserables". However, it was their production of Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" that received numerous awards. This was the first year for the program to be recognized at the Folger Shakespeare Festival (in Washington, D.C.). The coming year will bring more performances at state festivals including the Virginia Theatre Association and Virginia High School League festivals. In 2012 the Drama Department will be performing throughout the state and at a special performance at Walt Disney World for drama programs of distinction.
Freedom Chorus, directed by Chantel Tangredi, will have five choirs for the 2011-2012 school year with 130 students in the program. There will be a fall concert, winter holiday concert, pre-Festival March concert, a Spring Pops Showcase and performances throughout the year at various school and community functions. Our singers have performed at Disney World, Carnegie Hall, the Naval Academy and other locations. Our choirs include;
Rhapsody - 12 students in a SATB choir that performs madrigals, jazz, college a capella and classical works.
Soundsations - 16 elite women who perform SSAA harmony in the barbershop style, vocal jazz and traditional choral styles
Advanced Women's - 30 to 40 women performing SSA music
Men's Chorus - 20 to 30 men performing TTB arrangements
Bel Canto - 20 to 30 freshmen women performing SA and SSA music
Freedom High School also has a band, directed by Joel Galway, and orchestra, directed by Jeanne Nelson. Each group performs three times a year. Freedom did not have a marching band in its first year, however one was organized for the 2006-2007 school year. In it's short history the band program also organized a winter drumline and color guard, one of the few in the county placing second in the state this year.

Fine arts
Freedom's fine arts program is growing rapidly in popularity. In its inaugural year Freedom produced three drama performances, including a fall production of You Can't Take It With You, a winter production of Done to Death, and the spring musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The new Director of Drama is Jon Mark Rogers, who has won numerous awards throughout the state.The drama department received much praise in 2011 for their outstanding production of "Les Miserables".
