He achieved national fame after becoming the first Saudi to score in the world cup finals in the 2–1 defeat against the Netherlands during World Cup 94.
In the 1994 World Cup he scored two goals and helped Saudi Arabia advance from group including a header against The Netherlands and a long range effort against Morocco.
