Gail Riplinger
Encyclopedia
Gail Riplinger is an American
author
and speaker well-known for her support of the King-James-Only movement
.
Within her books, Riplinger has misquoted many different men in order to support her assertions, often using ellipses to hide the words that expose her misrepresentation. Even those who are sympathetic with her position on the translation debate have recognized Riplinger's misrepresentations and poor documentation. S. E. Schnaiter reviewed her book, New Age Bible Versions, in a published journal article. He stated, "Riplinger appears to be another of those who rush to [the KJV's] defense, alarmed by the proliferation of its modern rivals, armed with nothing more than the blunderbuss of ad hominem apologetic, when what is needed is the keenness of incisive evaluation." He later stated, "For whatever rationale on Riplinger’s part, she has produced not an exposé but rather a diatribe, often quite vitriolic, based on dogmatic, predispositional, and, more often than not, blatantly fallacious propaganda techniques rather than real evidence, carefully weighed and judiciously presented." She repeatedly misquotes, misrepresents, and inaccurately cites many people, including, Arthur Westcott, Brook Foss Westcott, Fenton John Anthony Hort
, Kenneth Taylor, Wilbur Pickering, Norman Geisler
, and many others.
She lists a large number of ways in which the KJV is superior to other translations. For example, in her discussion of the vocabulary of the KJV, she points out that "defame" and "dispensation" are based on Latin roots so says they are more easily understood by readers who speak Spanish, French, and Italian She lists many words and phrases in NKJV and other versions that she says are errors, comparing them to the KJV text. For example, she cites NKJV's "sexual immorality" as supporting "relative/subjective standards" compared to the KJV "fornication" (Matt. 12:32). Another example is from 1 Sam. 13:21 where NKJV is cited for transliterating the Hebrew currency unit "pim", which she criticizes as representing "positive identification microchip".
