A Gajra is a flower garland
which women in India
and Bangladesh
wear during traditional festivals. It is made usually of jasmine. It can be worn both on the bun and with the braid coiling. Women usually wear these when they wear sarees.
The name Gajra also refers to a community of traders originating from the state of Rajasthan in India .The name originated from a traders of renown in the Rajasthan - Sindh belt known as Seth Gajhmal , he is thought to have gained this title for the Kings of sind at the time due to his effort in providing regiments of elephants - known as Gaj in the region - to the ruling kings which helped them repel attacks from the afghan and Mughal invaders from the northeast . There is also a temple dedicated by him to the popular deity Ganesh , the elephant headed god in Jaisalmer .
