The six-lane bridge represents one of the most expensive public works projects ever in the state of Nevada. Once constructed, the 1700 feet (518.2 m) bridge with its 690 feet (210.3 m) span over the creek will be the longest concrete arch bridge
in the United States
. Construction is currently scheduled to be completed in late 2011.
On March 5, 2010, during routine testing of post tensioning ducts, several cracks appeared in four different locations on the bridge. The thirty foot cracks, as wide as a dime at their greatest point, reportedly do not compromise the structural integrity of the bridge but may shorten its expected lifespan by as much as ten years.
