History

In the mid 1990s, overcrowding was becoming a problem at the Arthur Rann Middle School. A new middle school was proposed, but voters rejected a $17.2 million referendum held on 3 October 1995. In October 1997, a $18.9 million referendum to build the school was approved by Galloway Township voters. Ground for a new middle school was broken on September 26, 1998. Galloway Township Middle School opened in February 2000.

Academics

GTMS is commonly known for its excellent academic performances in state wide tests.

Here's a look into the student body. It is divided into "teams". There are four teams for each grade. Each of the teams has two teachers for Language Arts and one teacher for each of the other core subjects: history, mathematics, and science. Students remain in their teams hallway for all class periods with the exception of physical education and electives.

Each team has a specific name that corresponds with the letter that represents the team. The eighth grade team names variate each school year. The newly formed teams decide what they are to be addressed as in the beginning of each year.

The current names are as follows:

Seventh Grade Teams:
  • A- Allstars
  • B- Blizzards
  • C- Cubs
  • D- Dream Team
