, the village has a total area of 0.1 square mile (0.258998811 km²), all of it land.
In 1759, Garrett was founded by Sir Garrett Finn. He tried to name it Agothorn, but the committee declined. Sir Finn cursed their names and spat at their shoes. He left the town in an uproar and later had a child that would bare the family name. In April of the year 1764, Sir Finn was mauled by a bear in a hunting accident.
Thus, in memory of Sir Finn, the citizens decided to name the town Garrett.

was 1,422.9 people per square mile (546.1/km²). There were 81 housing units at an average density of 582.1 per square mile (223.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.48% White, and 1.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.53% of the population.
There were 76 households out of which 40.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.4% were married couples
living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.3% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the village the population was spread out with 34.8% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 32.8% from 25 to 44, 15.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 104.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.8 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $29,375, and the median income for a family was $29,500. Males had a median income of $29,063 versus $20,096 for females. The per capita income
