Gelugor is a town located at the southern part of Georgetown, a midway town between Georgetown and Sungai Dua
. It is made up of several residential commercial areas, namely Island Glades, Island Park, Minden Heights, Kampung Kastam (Custom Village), Taman Tun Sardon, Taman Brown (also known as Brown Gardens), Bukit Gambir (sometimes spelt "Gambier"), Bukit Gelugor
and Sungai Gelugor (Famed for having the oldest Malay School in Malaysia, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Gelugor). It is near some of the state's most prominent landmarks, such as Penang Bridge
and Universiti Sains Malaysia
(University of Science Malaysia). Reclamation works are undergoing near Penang Bridge to build a waterfront city.
At certain times of the day, it is most possible to see cow-herding at the areas of Bukit Gelugor and Kampung Kastam. Even bullock carts can be spotted here, although not so commonly found. The areas of Bukit Gelugor, Bukit Gambir and Taman Brown has some of the largest India
