Following the deposing of King Mohammad Reza Pahlavi
, Oveisi was one of several Iranian generals who undertook to gain support for a counter-revolution against the new Iranian government in the United States, other Western countries, and the Muslim world. Along with other deposed generals such as Bahram Aryana
, Oveisi sought out allies, such as Iran's enemy, Baathist Iraq.
Oveisi was assassinated, along with his brother, on 8th February, 1984.
