GhostBSD is a free Unix-like
operating system
based on FreeBSD
and used as a live CD
and a hard disk install. The Developers Eric Turgeon and Nahuel Sanchez founded this software-project in 2010 after they met in the official FreeBSD Forum. They both agreed on the GNOME-desktop environment.
Version 1.5, based on FreeBSD 8.1, uses GNOME 2.30. Compiz
. Since 1.5 it is possible to install GhostBSD on a hard disk
using the command line based pc-sysinstall.
Version 2.0 is based on FreeBSD 8.2, and was released on March 13, 2011. Some changes in version 2 include improvements to GDM
and bug fixes.
The German bimonthly released magazine freeX
(1/2011) features GhostBSD 1.5 on a supplemented DVD and in an article.
Version 2.5 is based on the FreeBSD 9.0 and is currently in beta testing.
