Gilera DNA

The Gilera DNA was a modern hybrid between a scooter and motorcycle.
Gilera
produced it in 50cc, 125cc, and 180cc variants. While the DNA looked like a conventional motorbike, it featured the automatic 'twist and go' capabilities of a scooter along with electronic start and helmet storage space. Because the DNA handles like a motorbike it is often used for scooter racing, its large 14" wheels allow it to corner well at high speed. The helmet storage was in the 'dummy fuel tank' that sat in the place of a fuel tank. The actual 9 litre fuel tank is fitted inside the bike's body paneling and is filled through the 'dummy tank'. The 50cc bike was limited to a top speed of 31 mph (49.9 km/h) but with the limiter removed can reach speeds in excess of 60 mph (96.6 km/h), the 125 was capable of 68 mph (109.4 km/h), and 180cc topped out at 78 mph (125.5 km/h). The 50cc engine is a 2-stroke, while the 125cc and 180cc models are 4-stroke, all are single cylinder. The RRP of a new DNA model was as follows:
In 2005 Gilera redesigned the Dna model which replaced the handlebars with a different design and featured a new colour scheme. This model is commonly referred to as the 'RST' model and is available in 'Grey stone' and 'Diamond White'.
This model was discontinued by Gilera and replaced by the Gilera Runner
