The First Gillard Ministry was the 66th Australian ministry. It was led by Julia Gillard
of the Australian Labor Party
.
The Gillard Ministry took effect on 24 June 2010 with the swearing in of Julia Gillard as Prime Minister and Wayne Swan
as Deputy Prime Minister
. All the members of former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd
's Ministry initially remained in their existing portfolios. Rudd himself was not a member of the Ministry. A minor reshuffle was announced on 28 June, with Simon Crean
to assume responsibility for Gillard's former portfolios of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations and Social Inclusion. Stephen Smith
was assigned the Trade portfolio in addition to his Foreign Affairs portfolio.
Following the federal election held on 21 August, the ministry was reconstituted on 14 September 2010 as the Second Gillard Ministry
