Girona is a railway station on the R11 Medium Distance line in Catalonia

, located west of the historic center of Girona
in Girona Province. In addition to the regional lines, the station is also a stop for trains running on the Long Distance line such as the Talgo, Estrella, or Trenhotel Costa Brava. The station is located in the Barcelona-Portbou route.
. The present station however, is located on an elevated viaduct and started service in 1973. By 2012, the station, while remaining in the same location, will become subterranean with all tracks including the new high speed from Barcelona to France moved underground.
Currently, the station has a large passenger building underneath the tracks, where there are several services including commercial establishments. The Girona bus station is located just next door. The trains run on the upper level, which is accessed by stairs, escalators, and elevators. This level has a total of six tracks: two general, two siding, and two dead channels. There are a total of three platforms, partially covered by canopies, and a building on the right of way dedicated to traffic and various services related to railways. Girona also has a freight station, located located about 3 km south of the passenger station, which is expected to be shut down when the high speed line is connected to the city.
