Gladiolus dalenii originates from South African seed. It's the main parental species of the large flowering Grandiflora hybrids. This species is tetraploid and possesses 60 chromosomes. That's why the hybrids produced from it are also tetraploids.

Produces five tall flower spikes of intense scarlet orange flowers, each with a bright yellow throat.
Cultivation
Prefers a light sandy neutral to slightly acid soil with a pH between 6.5 and 7[1, 200] in a sunny sheltered position. Requires a stony gritty loam.
