Glen Eyre Halls

Glen Eyre Halls is a halls of residence complex owned by the University of Southampton
. It is situated in the Bassett
district of Southampton
, approximately one quarter mile north of the University campus in Highfield.
The Halls are home to around 2100 students staying for variable length contracts. The complex consists of several buildings spanning two close sites.
The Halls are the closest in proximity to the university, and as such are the most popular halls among first year students.
The rooms are all self catered with shared bathroom, and there are no extra facilities on site.
The Building features 128 rooms, divided into 16 flats across 4 floors. The rooms are all standard rooms with wash basin, with a shared kitchen and bathroom per flat.
Chamberlain Hall was designed by the famous architect Basil Spence and provides catered accommodation for 167 residents.
In March 2011, the University announced that Chamberlain Halls would be closing down at the end of the 2010/2011 academic year, but with plans to rebuild a replacement at some point in the future.
The Buildings have disabled access and offer a wide variety of different size rooms, including en-suite rooms. The buildings house 605 students.
The building is also the former headquarters of Surge Radio (formerly known as Glen Radio) - who have now moved to the main student union building on the Highfield Campus.
The Building also houses the computer room, accessible to the rest of Glen Eyre residents
The bar is run by the Junior Common Room (JCR), there are occasional events on here. Upstairs there is a TV room, a projector room and a pool table. Downstairs there are more TVs and a Bar.
Chamberlain Bar was rebranded Chambers Bar in 2010.
In 2011, the University announced the closure of Chamberlain Halls which includes Chamberlain Bar. This means the bar will not be operational as of July 2011.
Two squash courts are attached to the gym, and require booking in advance.
The gym facilities are open to anyone who has a sports-rec membership.
There a several barbecues and benches dotted around the green areas of the main Glen Eyre Halls, and the Chamberlain section. These are free for use by residents of the complex.

Beechmount House
Beechmount House is a smaller building located a short walk from the main Glen Eyre Complex, and the Chamberlain Complex. It is home to 45 rooms intended to be for postgraduate and mature students who prefer a quieter working environment that the main Glen Eyre Complex.The rooms are all self catered with shared bathroom, and there are no extra facilities on site.
Brunei House
Brunei house was constructed in 1972 as a gift from the Sultan of Brunei shortly preceding Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Brunei.The Building features 128 rooms, divided into 16 flats across 4 floors. The rooms are all standard rooms with wash basin, with a shared kitchen and bathroom per flat.

Chancellor's Courts
Consisting of Jellicoe, Roll and Selborne, the Chancellors courts are the most recent building on the Glen Eyre halls complex.The Buildings have disabled access and offer a wide variety of different size rooms, including en-suite rooms. The buildings house 605 students.
Hartley Grove
The Hartley grove building is on the same site as the chamberlain halls, sharing the bar on that site. Hartley Grove opened in 1999, providing 400 study bedrooms divided into flats of six rooms sharing a kitchen.J-Block
Situated above the main Glen Eyre reception, J-Block is a catered halls with 97 rooms. There are kitchens and shared bathrooms for the various flats.Main Building
Overlooking the main green area and pond of the Glen Eyre Halls Complex, the Main Building was the original dining hall for the complex. It is now used by a variety of sports societies from the University of Southampton.The building is also the former headquarters of Surge Radio (formerly known as Glen Radio) - who have now moved to the main student union building on the Highfield Campus.
New Terrace
The new terrace was built in 1995 it contains 180 rooms, divided into flats of 7 sharing a kitchen. All the rooms are en-suite.The Building also houses the computer room, accessible to the rest of Glen Eyre residents
Old Terrace
The old terrace is opposite the new terrace, constructed in the 1970s, it contains 100 rooms. The building is divided into flats of 10; each sharing a bathroom, a shower, toilets and kitchen.Richard Newitt
Adjacent to the Main Building. Designed by Colonel R. F. Gutteridge these buildings have been built in a military barrack style. In general 4 rooms share kitchen and bathroom facilities. There are a total of 146 rooms in the block.South Hill
South Hill is half catered, half self-catered. It is based on the same site as the Chamberlain and Hartley Grove Buildings and shares their bar. There are 190 rooms divided into flats of 8 sharing a kitchen. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms.Glen Bar
The Glen Bar is the student pub based on the Glen Eyre Halls complex. It is joined onto the Main Building's Hall.The bar is run by the Junior Common Room (JCR), there are occasional events on here. Upstairs there is a TV room, a projector room and a pool table. Downstairs there are more TVs and a Bar.
Chamberlain Bar
The Chamberlain Bar is open to residents of the entire Glen Eyre complex. It contains a few pool tables and a darts board. It is run by the Chamberlain JCR who are separate from the Glen Eyre JCR.Chamberlain Bar was rebranded Chambers Bar in 2010.

Launderettes
There are Three Launderettes, Two on the Chamberlain complex, and one on the main Glen Eyre complex.Gym
There is a small gym located on the main Glen Eyre Halls complex containing a basic set of resistance and cardio machines.Two squash courts are attached to the gym, and require booking in advance.

Music Room
The music room (or round room) is built off J-Block, next to the main reception. The building is bookable and contains a large room for band practices. The music room contains a grand piano.Open space
