. It was called Glencadia is the 18th century. The French—Scottish derivatives of Glencadia apparently mean a "creek region of simple pleasures". The name seemed to change in the early 19th century although a book published in 1914 (A history of old Kinderhook from aboriginal days to the present time) refers to the village by the name Glencadia, not Stuyvesant Falls.
The hamlet includes a substantial textile mill dating to the 19th Century and a hydro-electric plant. The word "Glencadia" is popular with local businesses and organizations, including the dairy Glencadia Farms, the Glencadia Road and Gun Club, and Glencadia Dog Camp.
