The gmina covers an area of 160.32 square kilometres (61.9 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 11,677 (out of which the population of Bodzentyn amounts to 2,241, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 9,436).
It is known for a unique version of kapusta
that includes sheep intestine and kohlrabi.
The gmina contains part of the protected area
