. The Centre caters for 10 to 6,000 people, specialising in all events from small meetings and gatherings to corporate and association conferences, national and international incentives, banquets, exhibitions, concerts and sporting and special events.
Since the 2007-08 NBL season
the venue has been home to the Gold Coast Blaze
of the National Basketball League
and is able to seat 5,269 spectators during games. During Blaze games the centre is referred to as "The Furnace" and has gained a reputation for having close games with three Blaze games during the 2010-11 NBL season going into overtime.

The Centre is dedicated to providing a clean and professional venue to clients and since opening, has striven towards leading industry towards a greener way of conducting business events. The Centre’s environmental policy is driven by a volunteer committee of dedicated employees, called the Project Green Committee. With the assistance of Environmental Management Group, Ecosure, the past twelve months has seen the Centre successfully implement an Environmental Management Plan and make key changes for energy and water consumption as well as waste strategies.

Expansion
The Centre was expanded at a cost of $40 million and re-opened in early 2009. The makeover was funded by the Queensland Government, adding two extra exhibition halls, a registration office, three meeting rooms and three new kitchens, an extra 3,000 square metres of floor space in total. The Queensland Government commenced construction proceedings as a result of the increasing demand on the Gold Coast for larger space and concurrent sessions during national and international conventions and incentives. The final product requiredover 124,000 man hours, 1,550 m3 of concrete poured 375 tonnes of structural steel erected and 7,000 litres of paint.

The GCCEC was the winner of the Meetings and Business Tourism category at the 2010 Queensland Tourism Awards.
