got his coaching start as an assistant for the Redskins. He later served as head coach for Goshen after a stint at Angola High School. Rick Mirer also attended Goshen. As a senior quarterback at GHS, Mirer completed 259 of 420 passes for 3,973 yards and 30 touchdowns. He also rushed for nearly 500 yards and 22 TDs. He then went on to set multiple records at Notre Dame. During his 12-year NFL career, he played for the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions. In 1978 and 1988 Goshen's football teams won state. In 1981 and 1999 they were state runner ups. Goshen's wrestling team has over 40 consecutive winning seasons and in 2010 posted a 21-1 season. The Goshen boys soccer team in 2007 placed in the top 4 in the state.

Recently, Goshen sports have enjoyed general mediocrity. The low performance of the high school's football team may be due to the fact that they have had five different head coaches since the 2003-2008 season. This poor management is an unfortunate part of the teams' otherwise good history. The most recent coach, Dave Wilson, resigned after just three seasons because of personal family issues. Under his command the Redskins accounted for a 10-21 record and flourished defensively.
After a lengthy search, on March 4, 2011, Michael Cheviron was been named as Goshen High School’s next varsity football coach. Cheviron coached five years at Fort Wayne South, and compiled a 30-26 record with the Archers. Prior to South, Cheviron coached 10 years (61-47 record) at Fort Wayne Carrol High School.

Academics

Goshen High School carries one of the few genetics–ethics courses in Indiana. GHS is one of the few schools in Indiana offering the International Baccalaureate Program, this program consists of higher level classes. The IB classes offered by Goshen include: History, English, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Visual Arts, Music Theory, Mathematics, Math Studies, Pre-Calculus/Calculus, and TOK. These classes are either offered in SL or HL. HL are typically a two year course and SL courses are a one year course. Goshen is, as well, one of the first schools in the country to teach the Career Plus program.

While Goshen High School has many upper level education programs, the majority of the high school generally performs poorly academically. Goshen's standardized test scores are well below the state of Indiana's average. Also, over half of the school is on some form of assistance. Even with the presence of such rich upper level programs, Goshen High School has SAT scores below state average, despite an average teacher salary of over $52,000 a year ($2000 above state average). These poor results coupled with the high school's failure to reach the state of Indiana's "Average Yearly Progress" in 2008, present many issues academically.
