The school was ranked 22nd in a listing of the top 50 secondary schools in Scotland in 2005.

History

The original School was founded in 1909, and was located on Binnie Street, Gourock, in order to accommodate the growing population of Gourock at the time. Mr Robert Fulton who had previously been Head Master of the Eastern School, was brought in to be the Head Master of the newly formed Gourock High School. The High School quickly built a stellar reputation for academic excellence and strong standing within the community.

The New School

The Secondary School was moved due to spacial issies, and in 1963 moved to its current location at Tower Hill. The school sits in a prime location with panoramic views over all of Gourock. It has built on the strong reputation within the community and is operating above the original capacity that the building was designed for, again showing its popularity within the surrounding community.

Future

Gourock High School will close its doors forever in 2011 for one last time, Gourock High School and Greenock Academy

 are to merge together in a new school in the Bayhill area of Gourock. The new school, on the site previously occupied by St Columba's High School, Gourock will be known as Clydeview Academy. Gourock High School is currently seeking memories and stories about the School and what you went on to be from old Gourockians.
