History

The college was established in 1956. It was shifted to the new building in 1962 and was nationalized in 1973. The college was bifurcated into two independent and separate colleges having separate establishment offices, teaching and administrative staff, in 1973: But both colleges are in same building and classes are commonly shared but offices are not. Science College is in Morning Shift and Arts & Commerce classes are conducted in evening: Government Islamia Science College Sukkur (imorning shift) and Government Islamia Arts & Commerce College & Post Graduate Studies Centre Sukkur (evening shift). Prof. Muhammad Shafi Arain, Associate Professor is acting as principal of Govt. Islamia Science College Sukkur and Prof. Shoukat Ali Memon, Associate Professor of Economics is acting as the principal of Govt. Islamia Arts & Commerce College & Post Graduate Studies Centre Sukkur who was going to retire in May 2010.
