Gran Coquivacoa is a Venezuelan gaita zuliana
group founded in 1968, by Jesús Bocachico Petit, Nelson Suárez, Rody Tigrera, Pedro Arteaga and Manolo Salazar, at the city of Cabimas
, Zulia State).
In 1969, singer Nelson Martínez entered to the group, becoming the lead singer in the 1960s and 1970s, with his tamboreras, and gaitones, like El Gran Gaitón (1969), Tamborera 7 (1975), Tamborera 9 (1977), Los Vasallos, La Traidora (1976), Gaita a Tambora, and many others.
In 1975, Neguito Borjas entered to Gran Coquivacoa, in the 1978 season composed Sin Rencor, one of the most popular gaitas ever written. Neguito in 1979 travels to the United States
for studies, returning to Venezuela in the 1980s, becoming since that, the lead singer of the group.
