The park, honoring President (and former Vancouver, Washington
resident) Ulysses S. Grant
, was acquired by the city in 1922. On October 13, 1995, the Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden for Children was dedicated in the park. It includes life-sized renditions by sculptor Lee Hunt of three Cleary characters: Ramona Quimby
, Henry Huggins
, and Ribsy (Henry's dog). Grant Park is only a few blocks away from Klickitat Street
, the fictional home of the characters.
