. First built in 1969, Athena is the largest - both in size and population - of the four high schools. A notable recent addition to the school is its state-of-the-art performing arts center.
is a student-centered secondary school in which the
staff strives to maintain a focus on high academic
achievement while creating a learning environment
in which all students feel valued. Athena also offers
Advanced Placement courses, several Dual Credit
courses through which students can earn high
school and Monroe Community College (MCC) or
Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) credit
simultaneously, authentic science research and various career internship opportunities. Athena has
been awarded the PLTW certificate and has multiple
nationally recognized music ensembles.
Athena provides a wide variety of experiences to
its 1,316 students. More than 30 extracurricular
activities are available to students, including
Student Council, National Honor Society, Model UN,
Mock Trial, an Association of Marketing Students,
MasterMinds, Math Team, Envirothon Team, Show
Choir, Trojan Tribune, and a variety of academic
clubs. Students are encouraged to participate in the
creation of new clubs. Some of Athena’s newest
organizations — Principal’s Forum, Safe School
Ambassadors, Odyssey of the Mind, and Martial
Arts — were a direct result of student interest.
