History

The Church of the Holy Trinity and St Luke the Evangelist was founded in 1983 and until December 1994 services were held at an Anglican church in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham.

The great desire of the community members was to acquire its own church building and in 1992 the decision was taken to relocate our Church to the West Midlands Cypriot Community Centre in Erdington, Birmingham.

With the help of the Church Council and the priest at the time, Fr Nikolaos Skapoulis, together with the support and blessing of his Eminence Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain, their goal became reality. On the 22nd October 1995 with all due ceremony Archbishop Gregorios consecrated the new Church. The Divine Liturgy has been celebrated there ever since on Sundays and on all the main feast days. The current Father of the church is Fr Christos Stephanou.

Renovation

The Church began its renovation program in 2007 whereby it had the roof restored, a new ceiling installed and began to cover the walls with frescoes depicting various biblical scenes in a Byzantine style. This will add to the previous paintings in the Holy of Holies

Youth Conference

The Church held an Orthodox Youth Conference on the 26th January 2008. The conference began with a divine liturgy in the morning followed by three sessions each consisting of a talk by various speakers. The first session was on The Sacraments of Baptism, the Eucharist and Confession. The guest speaker was Archimandrite Chrysostomos Michaelides. The second session was on the subject We are the Temple of the Holy Spirit and the speaker was Archimandrite Zacharias of the monastery of St John the Baptist
