Greek legislative election, 1915 (May)
Encyclopedia
The elections took place 31 May 1915. Eleftherios Venizelos
and his Liberal Party
achieved a landslide victory. At stake were 316 seats and the Liberals took 187 of them. Nevertheless and despite the victory of Liberals, Venizelos' dispute with King Constantine I
remained. The resulting parliament was superseded by new elections in following December from which Venizelos and his party abstained, but was resurrected by Venizelos in June 1917, when King Constantine was forced to abdicate and leave the country (see National Schism). As a result, it was popularly nicknamed the "Parliament of the Lazaruses
" (Βουλή των Λαζάρων), and continued until the general election
of October 1920.
