Green Hills Academy opened a three station covered gym with modern flooring for sports. The gym was one of the locales for the All-Africa under 18 Basketball Tournament.
Currently a twelve classroom IB Suite is under construction for grades 11 and 12 with an adjacent study area and a career guidance centre.It is slated to open in February of 2012.
German is taught from Grades 4 to 11 with plans to extend it to Grade 12 in 2012-13.
Classes are held in English through all the grades but there are large enrollments in the 50/50 Program from Nursery 1 to grade 8 where students study half the day in French and half in English. Kinyarwanda is offered at most levels. German is offered from Grade 4 onward and Green Hills Academy was the first PASCH partner school in East Africa, authorized by the Goethe Institute to offer German instruction.

Campus
The school currently educates 1,530 students from the nursery level to senior high school. Green Hills has a single campus with three separate schools, each with a principal: Green Hills Nursery School, Green Hills Primary School and Green Hills Secondary School. Green Hills Academy offers Day Boarding for students from Grades 4 to 12 which provides evening tutorials as well as an evening meal and bussing home. Academics
Green Hills Secondary offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in Grades 11 and 12, and follows the Cambridge IGCSE in grades 9 and 10. Singapore Math forms the basic curriculum from Nursery 1 to Grade 8 and Singapore Science is followed from Grades 1 to 8. The school sponsors traditional dance and drumming groups and offers Kinyarwanda from Nursery to Grade 8.German is taught from Grades 4 to 11 with plans to extend it to Grade 12 in 2012-13.
History
Green Hills Academy was formed in 1995 and is controlled by a Rwandan School Board. The staff is international, with about 50% from Rwanda and with other teachers from The USA, Britain, Canada, Switzerland, France, Germany, India, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Congo. The previous and current headmasters, Jill Fenton and Ron Wallace, are Canadian. Two of the principals, Shamira Buhura at Nursery and Geoffrey Mutabazi at Primary, are Rwandan and the Secondary Principal, Mrs Alpana Mukherjee, is from India. The Deputy Headmaster, Gaspard Kagenza, is Rwandan also.
