Greg Marshall is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Home and Away
, portrayed by Ross Newton. He made his first on-screen appearance on 20 September 1991. Newton departed the show in 1993, before making a brief return in 2000.

to record a video message asking Bobby to marry him.Although she initially fell asleep while watching it, she quickly accepted.However, they hit a stumbling block when Bobby's ex-husband Frank Morgan returned to town to try to win her back.Bobby chose Frank but changed her mind almost immediately and went back to Greg.Greg was hurt when he found out but they managed to move past it.
Greg took a job working for Michael Ross
at the boat shed.He clashed with Adam over the best way to repair an engine but was proved right so Michael kept him on.After a mishap when their wedding had to be delayed after Sam caught his hand in a plug hole, they married on the beach.
The couple had their first argument almost immediately when Greg installed the new furniture they had been given as wedding presents in the house. Marilyn Chambers
, their housemate and landlady, was upset about her furniture being moved into the garage and, when Bobby discovered how she felt, she moved Marilyn's furniture back in, angering Greg.They were to be constantly plagued by financial problems, with Greg working longer and longer hours at the boat shed, to the extent that Michael found him asleep when he was left alone.He ended up taking Adam in as a lodger while Bobby was away and had a hard time explaining it when she came back.
Bobby was still keen to continue fostering and offered a place to Sarah Thompson, who needed to stay in town to attend school.Greg accepted her but was less happy about Tug O'Neale, a troublemaker who reminded Bobby of her younger self, moving in.Greg was coaching the school football team and his decision to allow enthusiastic but unskilled Damian Roberts on the team resulted in arguments between Tug and Damian's friend Shane Parrish
.When the two got into a fight during training, Greg ordered Tug to move out. However, he changed his mind when Tug saved Sarah's life after she suffered an asthma
attack, acknowledging he had just been waiting for Tug to mess up and agreeing to give him a fair go.
While Greg was shopping, he helped a woman named Fiona Harris search for her missing son Toby.The two struck up a friendship and Greg often visited her family to relax.When Bobby's father Donald Fisher
hired her as a housekeeper, Greg felt uncomfortable and was unsure how to explain their friendship to Bobby. Fiona smoothed things over but then she and Greg did embark on an affair.The attempt at infidelity was fairly disastrous, with both Nick and Damian finding out, and Fiona left town after a few weeks.Greg confessed all to Bobby, who walked out on him but eventually forgave him.
Greg and Bobby rebuilt their relationship and were even talking of starting a family when Bobby was badly injured in a motorboat accident. After she had been on life support for weeks, the doctors announced she was brain dead and Greg agreed to the machines being turned off.He was furious when he learned Adam, who had been driving the boat, had been charged with improper navigation over the incident and threw him out of the house, refusing to forgive him.
Greg decided to take a job as a lorry driver but it meant he was unable to look after Sam.He placed him in Donald's care, supposedly as a temporary measure, but later gave permission for him to be fostered by Michael and Pippa
, admitting he wasn't returning to town.
He was not seen again until 2000 when he returned to town to visit Sam. Although he had let him down by cancelling an earlier visit, he asked Sam to come and live with him and Sam agreed.However, Donald doubted Greg's competence as a father and, when he saw how much Donald cared for him, Sam changed his mind and decided to stay in Summer Bay.
