. In December 2005, he produced a three-minute animated short for the first annual "Southern Sports Awards," a TV show which aired on Fox Sports Network. In 2010, Bridgestone Multimedia Group began distributing an animated DVD entitled "Coach Tyranny: Sowing The Seeds of Victory" which features a character Blackwell co-created with former North Carolina State University football player Dallas Dickerson. A second DVD in the series, entitled "Coach Tyranny: Tough Love," released April 2011.

Blackwell is a 1992 graduate of North Carolina State University School of Design. He began his career in newspapers, first working for The Times in Gainesville, Georgia, and later for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution during their coverage of the 1996 Olympic games.
